Located within the new House Children’s Hearing Center, the Center for Pediatric Hearing Health Research is collaborating with clinicians and partner institutions to study the causes of hearing loss, develop and improve interventions, and assess the effects of hearing loss on childhood development. Currently, researchers at or affiliated with the center are studying spoken emotion communication in children with cochlear implants as well as predictors of hearing loss later in life.

While genetic factors are most strongly associated with pediatric hearing loss, factors such as socio-economic status, diet, and exposure to environmental hazards may also be important. The Center for Pediatric Hearing Health Research is uniquely positioned to contribute to our understanding of the role social determinants play in the lives of the families the House Children’s Hearing Center serves.
